Style Tips from Our Head of Design

Every collection at J.Jill is made to look great, feel amazing and style effortlessly. Each season has its trends, key colors and hero pieces, though, so we tapped Elliot Staples, our head of design, for easy tips on wearing our newest assortment of fall outfits for women.

Style Tip #1:

Play with Outdoors-Inspired Color Pairings

Our palette this season is inspired by the outdoors and the way Mother Nature plays with colors. If evergreen trees can pair green with brown beautifully, so can we. In that spirit, one of Elliot’s top fall style tips is mixing neutrals with refreshing shades of green and playing with different textures. He notes our V-neck multicolored sweater as a great example of this color combination, especially when worn with our Taylor luxe faux-suede pants. “Pairing this hue of green against the rich nutmeg suede creates a new softer feminine take on fall dressing,” he says. “I love how this new color pairing perfectly exemplifies how the outdoors and the changing of the seasons inspired our fall palette.”

Style Tip #2:

Try a Third Piece

Accessories are an integral part of our style arsenal. Adding what we call a “third piece,” such as a belt, hat, scarf or even a light layer can instantly take an outfit from good to great while making it uniquely yours. According to Elliot, the texture and color mix of our yarn-dyed paisley jacquard wrap complements so many of our styles. He feels that “the texture play adds such dimension to the richness of the collection.”

Style Tip #3:

Explore New Outerwear Options

In terms of how to layer for fall, Elliot informs us that “the cord jacket is this season’s alternative to a jean jacket.” Ours features the same two-pocket functionality and ups the ante with a soft, neutral color, season-right texture and a removable Sherpa collar. He loves how “the outdoorsy inspiration is interpreted with such a feminine twist” on this style. We think you’ll agree, and we know you’ll find so many ways to wear this versatile jacket, as well as the others in our collection.
