Fall Home Manicure Tips

Raise your hand if you’ve ever tried to hide your nails while taking a picture or participating in a virtual event because you’d gone awhile without a manicure. Don’t worry; we’ve all been there, especially lately. To help boost your nail-care confidence, we asked one of our favorite beauty experts, April Greaves, for easy DIY at-home manicures.

Continually Care for Your Cuticles

“Consistent care along the way helps keep your nails and hands from getting to a crisis point, especially with all the frequent handwashing,” April says. She recommends using a nourishing and hydrating hand cream often, making a point to rub it into your cuticles each time and gently pushing them back a little once they’re softened. When you perform your actual manicure, use a good quality file to smooth your nails’ ends and slightly round off the corners.

Complement Your Complexion

April says it’s a great idea to have a few season-right colors at home that look great with your skin tone and the clothes in your closet. When choosing colors, keep in mind whether your skin has warm or cool undertones—olive or reddish skin tones tend to be warm, and pinkish or bluish undertones are cool. While she asserts that there are no strict rules this season, she suggests selecting colors that balance your skin tone. Nude and deep wine shades tend to look great on all complexions, and they go well with the northern lights–inspired colors of our new collection. Rosewood and similar blush tones are also universally flattering and pair perfectly with our favorite statement outerwear pieces from our late fall collection.

Make It Last

A little fading or chipping doesn’t have to mean the end of your manicure. According to April, you can extend the life of your nail color (especially a darker one) by simply adding a little more of that same color to areas that have chipped or faded, then applying a fresh topcoat. “This adds to the longevity of your manicure very well,” she says.
