What We Love Now: Plaid
At J.Jill we love a good story, and plaid definitely has one. Its rich history goes back at least 3,000 years, and the term “plaid” originally referred to the thick fabric on which checked patterns appeared, while “tartan” referred to the actual patterns. While it was once used to denote the heritage of specific families or locations, it has become a fashion mainstay and one of our favorite patterns. Though steeped in tradition, Glen plaids, tartans, buffalo checks and other types of plaid always feel modern. In red, they feel festive and holiday-ready, but they’re also incredibly versatile, and that’s why plaid is what we love now.
