Why the seam?

I bought a navy long-sleeve pima crew neck tee last fall and loved it!--but accidentally spattered bleach on it today. So I am looking to replace it and find that now the solid colors all have a seam down the front, which they didn't have before. So why, why, J.Jill, did you decide to do that. I have ordered it and hope I'll love it as much as the one I ruined. But I really loved the simplicity of no seam. Otherwise would have given 5 stars...
