Rated 3 out of 5 by Simple The dress was okay but it ran very large and the dress did nothing for me and I did want to keep it because it was a good deal. August 8, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good dress for daily wear and special occasions This dress didn't thrill me when I first tried it on. I was thrown by the styling of the empire waist, somewhat reminiscent of a short maternity dress from the 1960's or 70's, and a little frumpy. Undecided as to whether to send it back, I hung the dress up and after being out of the package a couple of days it seemed to fall a little more nicely. I decided to keep it, and every time I wear it I like it more. It is very versatile: casual but can easily be dressed up. The fabric has body and drapes well. I'm so glad I decided to keep it and know I will wear it a lot. August 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Most flattering dress EVER I am bonkers over the fit, fabric and comfort of this dress. It may be my all-time favorite. The empire waist is very flattering to my fuller stomach but the pleating at the bust takes away the emphasis on what the empire is accomplishing. Know what I mean? Well, it's hard to describe the brilliant and very simple mechanics of the dress but it just WORKS. In black it's simple and elegant for dressing up or down depending on accessories. The fabric is substantial but not heavy so it will be a good all-season garment AND the sleeves look good up (buttoned) for casual and down (unbuttoned) for a more evening touch. I'm sad I didn't move fast enough to grab it in gray too. July 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Convertible Sleeves, Tunic Length, Drapes nicely I love tunics and leggings and this dress certainly fits the bill. It's made of a comfortable, breathable material and it can probably be worn year round if you consider a cooler day in summer. I like that the sleeves are convertible as tab sleeves aren't my favorite adornment. The empire waist is flattering and the material drapes nicely in my humble opinion. I don't need "shapewear" which I dislike wearing with casual attire anyway. I ordered the gray and they are out of my size in black, petite medium, or I would have ordered it immediately. Hope they bring this one back. July 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Comfy and stylish Love this dress. Has great stitching with pleats at empire waist. Can be dressed up or down. Love how soft it is and also a loose, but not unflattering fit. Great length at just below the knee. July 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Soft, loose-fitting, very feminine There's something very feminine about this dress. OK, I admit, dresses are usually worn by women, but that doesn't make them feminine. This one is. The material is soft and falls rather than floats, but without being too heavy. It's easy to put on, and very easy to dress up or down, especially with the sleeves being adjustable between long and buttoned-up (to about elbow length—another plus). I like the neckline. I dislike V-necks, which make my broad shoulders look like a navvy's*, but which are, of course, the commonest neckline on women's tops and dresses, because (you guessed it) they make the wearer's shoulders look broader. So kudos to JJill for offering other options, like this one, which is much more flattering for me. The neckline also gives space for a pretty necklace or scarf around the throat, but without being too revealing. Also, I bought it in black (because black) but the lower neckline means I'm not wearing black too close to my face, something which, at 55, I tend to avoid. <<sigh>> [*British usage: 'navvy' = 'labourer'; from 'navigator', used of the men who dug Britain's canals in the 18th century. Fascinating, no? No. OK. Back to the review.] The cut is fairly generous below the bust, and can hide any lumps & bumps. You may find it too generous. It depends. Warning! Possible TMI ahead! I suffer from abodominal bloating, and sometimes I need a dress that will hide it and not be constricting. This dress is perfect for that use. Which is not to say I won't wear it otherwise, just because I like it. July 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 2nd one... I already had this dress in gray but when the black went on sale I just had to have it. I love the weight and feel of material. Great alone or with leggings. July 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Looking forward to wearing this in the fall I’m a 10 in the J.Jill line, the medium fits well and the material is soft. I’ll wear it later this year with leggings & boots. July 17, 2014
