Rated 5 out of 5 by Gattina Soft, loose-fitting, very feminine
There's something very feminine about this dress. OK, I admit, dresses are usually worn by women, but that doesn't make them feminine. This one is.
The material is soft and falls rather than floats, but without being too heavy.
It's easy to put on, and very easy to dress up or down, especially with the sleeves being adjustable between long and buttoned-up (to about elbow length—another plus).
I like the neckline. I dislike V-necks, which make my broad shoulders look like a navvy's*, but which are, of course, the commonest neckline on women's tops and dresses, because (you guessed it) they make the wearer's shoulders look broader. So kudos to JJill for offering other options, like this one, which is much more flattering for me. The neckline also gives space for a pretty necklace or scarf around the throat, but without being too revealing. Also, I bought it in black (because black) but the lower neckline means I'm not wearing black too close to my face, something which, at 55, I tend to avoid. <<sigh>>
[*British usage: 'navvy' = 'labourer'; from 'navigator', used of the men who dug Britain's canals in the 18th century. Fascinating, no? No. OK. Back to the review.]
The cut is fairly generous below the bust, and can hide any lumps & bumps. You may find it too generous. It depends.
Warning! Possible TMI ahead!
I suffer from abodominal bloating, and sometimes I need a dress that will hide it and not be constricting. This dress is perfect for that use. Which is not to say I won't wear it otherwise, just because I like it.

I already had this dress in gray but when the black went on sale I just had to have it. I love the weight and feel of material. Great alone or with leggings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ongar Looking forward to wearing this in the fall
I’m a 10 in the J.Jill line, the medium fits well and the material is soft. I’ll wear it later this year with leggings & boots.

I purchased two of these when they were on sale. The price was reasonable. For me personally, they are not flattering - just a bit too shapeless. If the fabric was a bit more substantial with a better drape, the boxy shape would work, but this just didn't. I am returning them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bella123 Can't wait to wear this dress with leggings in the fall.
I love the oversized fit of this dress and plan to wear with leggings. The length is great for someone tall who want the legging look. Do not see the need for the tab sleeve. I plan to remove the tabs

Rated 5 out of 5 by Penny66 Great find!
I was brousing the deals and came across this dress that will totally fit my needs. I am a teacher and while I love to "dress up", I want to be comfortable as well. This dress begs for some great accessories and I know I can make it look 100 different ways by playing with scarves, necklaces and leggings. The quality is great. The fabric is so smooth and begs to have your hand run the length of it. No nubs or roughness, just silky smooth. Light enough to drape and heavy enough to wear in a Minnesota winter! Great find! So great, in fact, that I got the grey and black.

I love in New Mexico and I wear black only in fall and winter; just too hot most of the time. This is a nice dress; well styled. I ordered a large but this was had too much fabric under the arms for my figure.
I didn't like it enough to try another size.
I love J Jill clothes and have a wardrobe based on them. I am certain I will find another basic black dress from my favorite company.
