Returned them to the J Jill Store in Sarasota and exchanged for another pair of black pants and the new ones fit great. The Sales Clerk at the store was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I would have to measure the opening to give you the most precise answer. But, I will say that the bottom of the pants at the ankle is quite narrow. Not narrow enough to tuck into boots, but too tight to wear boots underneath without having the tops of the boots noticed. Flats work best.

Roughly 12" diameter. Narrow enough that you'd want to put on socks/knee highs before the pants but wide enough that you could get them on with the pants already on if you had to.

In my opinion, these pants run true to size.
I would try both sizes, just to be sure. However, the ponte knit does
have some stretch to it so you might keep that in mind.

For me they fit me perfect. I am large in the stomach and have smaller legs so the XL fit me great. They were not oversized for me. If you are larger in the legs go for the large vs. medium

We do extensive testing on our garments to ensure that we are recommending the best way for you to care for your items. We have determined that the very best way to care for our Ponte Slim-Leg Knit Pants is to machine wash them in cold water with like colors. They should be line dried and we do not recommend putting them in the dryer.

I have not washed them yet, so I do not know if they will shrink. I plan on washing it on hand-wash cycle and may hang them or put them in the dryer on light.
