While our guidelines are subject to change on an annual basis, the guidelines used for the 2010 application review are as follow:
- Job training, education and transitional and/or affordable housing to women in need
- Programs that break down barriers for women in crisis to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency
- General operating expenses to organizations that fall within J.Jill’s guidelines
The J. Jill Compassion Fund will provide general operating support to organizations whose mission is to provide the above services. Program
support is limited to the expansion or enhancement of existing programs, rather than to fund new programs.

Grant funding priority is given to programs and organizations that:
- Empower women and help them become self-sufficient
- Have established a relationship with or connection to one or more of the J.Jill store(s)
- Are located near one or more J.Jill store(s)
Eligible organizations are defined by:
- Community-based organizations or national organizations with local affiliates serving women in need
- Federal tax-exempt organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status

Company policy, budget limitations and/or Boston Foundation rules prevent Compassion Fund grants from supporting:
- Individuals, including scholarships or travel-related expenses paid to individuals
- Political, sectarian, fraternal or religious organizations
- Advertising in programs, bulletins, yearbooks or brochures
- Film or television productions
- Individual clubs, troops or school classrooms
- Single disease/issue information and research organizations
- Organizations or project focused outside the United States
